Simply stated, outdoor coaching blends the magic of nature and coaching to create a symbiotic experience that leads to clarity and a renewed sense of purpose.
Myriad studies prove that being in nature, away from the hustle and noise of our daily lives, is rejuvenating. This is where we find ourselves, our path. When we remove ourselves from all the noise, and intentionally place ourselves in the moment, soaking up the natural environment around us, we are able to work towards clarity and discovery. Decisions and choices become clearer, and the path to achieve goals is more visible. Removing yourself physically from the environment that causes stress and challenges is the first step.
But not everyone has the innate ability or knowledge of how to do this. Outdoor coaching helps guide one to these enlightening moments. It can be a relaxed hike into the woods, with some moments of mindfulness. It can be more active exploration on a mountain bike or in a kayak. Exercise also sometimes brings clarity, and helps us clear the mind of the static. Reaching the summit of a climb, with the rush of natural chemicals through our mind and body, helps clear out the mental toxins and roadblocks that sometimes keep us from seeing truly important goals. Being aware and present in nature, whether through passive or active endeavors and experiences, can be achieved.
With New Trails Outdoor Coaching, the office is outside. Whether it is within the city of Omaha, or a drive within 45 minutes of Omaha, there are dozens of locations that provide respite from the city and work environment. You don’t have to drive out of state for these escapes, though that is an option as well. Even the drive to and from these locations gives time for introspection and solitude.
In my coaching sessions, I incorporate ideas from positive psychology, mindfulness, adventure, and forest therapy. My experience as a mountain bike coach for young adults and adults, a mental health practitioner, and as a teacher bring together these worlds into one beneficial experience.
